C.B.T.

C.B.T. or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is based on the theory that it is not events themselves that upset you, but the meanings you attach to them.

This can start to cause you problems if you continue to hold on to the same thoughts and patterns of behaviour while failing to see the alternative explanation.

The therapy aims to show you ways of changing negative thoughts and composing alternative ways of thinking about your situation, all of which will make you feel better. The underlying concept behind the therapy is that our thoughts and feelings play a fundamental role in our behaviour.

More about C.B.T.

A C.B.T. therapist can help you understand how thinking and behaviour influence your feelings and situation and how to develop new thinking or behaviour which enables you to address specific problems and fears more effectively.

The underlying concept behind the therapy is that our thoughts and feelings play a fundamental role in our behaviour.

For example, a person who spends a lot of time thinking about plane crashes may find themselves avoiding air travel.

The goal of cognitive behavioural therapy is to teach people that whilst they cannot control every aspect of the world around them, they can begin to take control of how they interpret and deal with things in their environment.

Who Can Benefit from C.B.T.?

It has become increasingly popular in recent years with both mental health consumers and treatment professionals. As C.B.T. is usually a short-term treatment option, it is often more affordable than some other types of therapy. The therapy is also empirically supported and has been shown to effectively help patients overcome the following:

  • Depression
  • Panic attacks
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Phobias
  • Stress
  • Social anxiety
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Self-esteem issues

This is a type of psychotherapy in which negative patterns of thought about the self and the world are challenged in order to alter unwanted behaviour patterns or treat mood disorders such as depression.

The therapy can help patients, understand the thoughts and feelings that influence behaviours and is commonly used to treat a wide range of disorders including phobias, addictions, depression, and anxiety.

C.B.T. is generally a short-term process and is focused on helping clients deal with a very specific problem. Research has shown that the therapy is an effective treatment for a large range of problems e.g., depression, anxiety, chronic pain, disordered eating, low self-esteem, anger problems, and addiction.

More Information about the therapy

As an evidence-based psychological treatment, it has been proven to be effective through rigorous scientific research. This means that the treatment is not based on what people think might work, but what has been proven to work.

Evidence-based treatment can increase the chance that a problem is identified accurately and treated effectively. This will prevent the problem from being drawn out unnecessarily and decrease the chances of it coming back.

The treatment is brief and time-limited. Over the course of your one-to-one sessions you will learn how to become your own therapist. You will be given the tools to help you become your own person. To take charge of your life. To understand why you, and only you, have brought yourself to this place at this point in time. To accept that everyone is responsible for their own behaviour.
