Our Counselling Services

Cork Counselling Centre is a private practice and is for anyone who is willing to accept help, to look at themselves and their issues, and who will benefit from counselling. Counselling is a chance to talk confidentially with a person who can help you learn skills and new ways of looking at your situation at present. The process is solution focused and person-centric. This will help you be more aware and capable of solving problems on your own. Counselling is not like talking to a best friend. It is far more effective, not usually offering advice but instead helping you get a fresh perspective, you find your own way of understanding what you are dealing with, and can teach you coping strategies and skills. It can often be easier to talk to a professional therapist than a friend or family member, as your counsellor is not personally involved in your situation. The therapist can offer impartial empathy and compassion, and will never take what you say personally.  

Support

Counselling focuses on past and present crises that are causing you emotional anguish which prevents you from functioning as well as you could. ln all our lives events such as the loss of employment, the end of a relationship, a death, accident or ill health can be the trigger for us to take some space to manage our emotional consequences. Support and understanding can help us cope with overwhelming emotions, normalise our reactions and help regain our confidence and ability to function well again in our daily lives.

One or more of these issues may be interfering with your day to day life.  Our counselling services can help you take control of your life or help you understand why you are at this stage right now. The therapist helps to create a climate that enables and supports you in resolving present or past difficulties, and to change your own life for the better.
