Couples Counselling

Our therapists have been trained in, and specialise in, couples and relationship counselling. Your therapist will work to support you as a couple in identifying patterns and modes of communication and behaviours so that you can both take responsibility for your own choices and actions, and work out the best way for you to resolve your issues.

Your therapist’s aim is not to resolve the issues for you but to develop your skills so you can resolve the issues together. They will encourage you to feel free to talk openly about difficult topics and explore your childhood and family history. By analysing your behavioural patterns and the ways in which you communicate with each other, the therapist will also help you to see discrepancies in your and your partner’s behaviour and teach you techniques to improve your communication.

Common relationship issues:

  • You may feel that you are not being heard or listened to
  • Conversations can go around in never-ending circles
  • A conversation can easily turn into a a shouting match
  • There may be a reluctance to bring up a certain subject
  • There is a fear that talking will make things worse
  • Arguments happen all too often
  • After talking, you can feel frustrated, confused and alone
  • There is just nothing left to say

Do not ignore these issues, seize the moment and do something about it. With many couples the solution is right under their nose – it just takes someone neutral to help you along the way. In as little as six weeks of counselling couples have achieved huge changes in their relationship. The couples counsellor will help you through areas of difficulty.

Ideally, you should go to couples counselling together. We will give you both the chance to be heard. Counselling is an opportunity to look at the problem in a different way with someone who will respect and encourage your opinions and decisions.
